Sunan at-Tirmithiy

The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said (to his companions), "Imagine a river at someone's door, and he (1) bathed in it, every day five times, would there be any dirt left on him?" They replied, "No dirt would remain." He said, "Such is the example of the five prayers; God erases sins with them." Footnotes: (1) Masculine pronouns are generally used in Arabic as a means for referring to both men and women when the meaning is left general and is not otherwise specified.
